The Kombi has exceeded my expectations. Obviously itâs good at carrying stuff around, thanks to its sturdy extended rack and the accessories I got for it (baguette, platform and straps). Beyond that, itâs much more fun to ride than I thought it would be. The thoughtful design and rock solid construction makes the bike feel confident under me and capable of anything. I like that I can sit relatively upright on it so that I can easily see all around me, a must for the urban environment that I live in. The wide gear range and smooth shifter makes finding the right ratio a breeze. I really enjoy it. As a result, it encourages me to take the bike instead of my car to go places, which is exactly why I bought it. Iâm a lifelong bicycle enthusiast, and this is my all time favorite.

I love this bike. My kids (6 & 2) love this bike. To or from school/playdates/birthday parties, to the farmers market in the summer, or just a nice ride to break up the day. My favorite part is the conversation & singalongs we have while we ride.

As a former mountain biker and recreational roadie and lifelong eco-nerd, I fully embrace the âmore bikesâ concept but was a little apprehensive to invest in a cargo bike for my sonâs commute to kindergarten. A minivan? Me??
A solo test ride did little to quell my fears â heavy, sluggish â it felt more like driving a dump truck. But I stayed the course and made the Kombi mine, figuring I could re-sell it easily enough at a nominal loss if it didnât work out.
Once I put my son in back, though, the dump truck became a rocket ship! Soaring through the sky, zooming down the street, so much fun with every pedal stroke! We have a fairly long walk uphill to the park, which can tire the little guy out before we even get to soccer practice, the fishing hole, etc, but with the Kombi heâs ready to go when we get there.
Huge fan. Do it.

I’ve put 1200 miles on it and so far it’s been great. Very stable, rides well, surprising good pickup.
Pros:
– Can carry my kid and a bunch of stuff.
– Barely fits on my bike rack (Rocky Mounts)
– Rides well
– Good tires that do pretty well is snow
– Awesome kickstand
Cons:
– Has always been slightly funky shifting. Not a deal breaker, and to be expected for the price. I’ll probably replace the derailleur eventually, and even with that cost the bike is still an amazing value.
– Substandard lights. Again, buying good USB lights is another investment you need to make, still makes the bike a great value.

I have really enjoyed having a cargo bike. The seat is comfortable. I got the basket and it carries a lot which is great!. My 5 year old daughter love riding on it as well. Some things to know about it:
– It’s very heavy. even without a kid on the back. I have a smaller build at 5’4″. I like riding bikes and am not really interested in an electric bike, but I do now understand why some people would get the option due to the weight
– I think it has to do with the size of my foot, which is 7.5 women, but when I push off from standing sometimes my shoe gets stuck between the road and the kickstand because of the way the kickstand folds up and sticks out. If your foot is about that size watch out for that and adjust
– You need to read the fine print on the warranty as the accessories are not included. The headlight fell apart pretty quickly after getting it and I was told that it wasn’t covered and I’d just need to buy a new one

Great bike that is able to haul what you need, where you need. 10′ poles? Done. Bikepacking? You’ve got it. The bike is well built with thoughtful touches like the front wheel stabilizer, rear rack strut placements, and kickstand strength.
I will caution that for anyone else that is 6’2″, the included seat post just isn’t sufficient (nor is the seat tube clamp). I’m planning to unfortunately have to buy a new seat post and clamp to avoid having to reset both every 3-5 miles, as I do now. Otherwise, extremely happy with my purchase!

I absolutely love this bike. I’ve been riding it for about two and half years now and am continually impressed by its stability and versatility. I carried my son to school on it through all of kindergarten, and now into grade one. I’ve picked up groceries, and hauled multiple loads of stuff to thrift stores (often very heavy loads), and I’ve never felt overly strained or that I’ve overloaded it. I was worried initially that as my son got bigger, I wouldn’t be able to handle it anymore, but that’s not the case at all. I have the Pop-Top Rain Cover installed over Monkey Bars and have been able to use this bike effectively year round (I’m blown away [no pun intended] by how well it handles during wind storms!).
I’d recommend this bike to anyone and I plan on riding it forever.

I really like my Yuba Kombi. With the 2-go cargo bags, front basket, and a milk crate on the back rack, I have more than enough space for a grocery store or hardware store run. I have three complaints that I think make this a 4-star bicycle, and those are:
1) Virtually a non-issue: The Kombi is a little on the heavy side. I understand it’s necessary to have a sturdy and heavy bike to handle a 440-lb cargo load, but there are comparable cargo bikes from Tern and others that have a similar cargo load level and are ~20 lbs lighter. The weight may not be an issue for others, but I am a relatively small person and the weight is a bit of an issue. Most of those other bikes are also more expensive.
2) Also not much a problem, but still something to consider: The Kombi is a 9-speed. I find that it isn’t as comfortable to ride in the somewhat hilly areas where I live as bicycles with more gears. I’m making up for this by riding all the time and just becoming a stronger rider in general. Still, for those who aren’t already strong riders, this may be a slight issue.
3) This is the biggest problem I have, and I want to stress that it’s a minor problem that is easily managed, but a problem nonetheless: The Kombi’s kickstand, when deployed, is in the way of the pedals. The pedals hit the deployed kickstand if the pedals are spinning. This is an issue when mounted on the bike and trying to deploy the kickstand by pushing it down with one foot while rolling backwards a bit to fully lock it out. It has been my experience that often while rolling backward the pedals end up positioned just so that they hit the top of the partially-deployed kickstand and everything just stops. It prevents the kickstand from deploying in that circumstance because the bike can’t roll backwards any further due to the pedals hitting the kickstand. This happens all the time to me and requires me to be cognizant of this particular design flaw every time I try to deploy the kickstand while on the bike. If the kickstand were mounted just a half-inch or inch further toward the read of the Kombi than it currently is, this issue would disappear.

Very stable bike thatâs enjoyable to ride. I get such great exercise taking my kids to school and it doesnât feel like Iâm pulling 80lbs up hill, when I am. I wish I had gotten it a year ago!
Becky –
Just a joy to ride with my 3-year-old. We can chat, sing (downhill!), and in general enjoy our errands and adventures. Added unexpected bonus is the camaraderie with all the other cargo bike families we pass on the street in Portland, OR.
The bike is heavy, but I’m a petite mom and can manage hauling it around to get it in our narrow garage space. We opted against the electric assist and it’s a workout but definitely doable with our one kid. The bread basket is an amazing add-on as well!
Carrie (verified owner) –
This bike has improved my quality of life so much. I look forward to dropping 7 and 4 year old off at school/picking them up from school instead of dreading sitting in the traffic. Every morning and afternoon, we whiz by cars stuck bumper-to-bumper. It’s such a high quality bike, too. Much better than the individual bike I have for just myself.
I’ve also been shocked at how much less gas I’m using in our car. We don’t even have a far commute and this bike is going to “pay for itself” in less than a year.
Krislynn –
This is a great bike! It took a little bit to adjust to the length and weight, but I do not have any complaints. If you are looking for a bike to get around town fairly short distances, this is for you. If you have cargo, and long distances, I would go for the electric version because its quite a task trying to go uphill in this bike with cargo.
Scott Svidergol (verified owner) –
Simply an amazing bike!! Love everything about it and my 5 year old daughter couldn’t be more thrilled riding on the back. Love, love, love my Yuba bike…….
Timothy –
This bike is amazing! I take my 5-year-old to kindergarten on it every day. The add-on rain cover works great for my son dry and is also useful if you need to haul some extra cargo (I’ve done a couple of thrift-store drop-offs this way). A reviewer before me mentioned the rattling of the sideboards, which can definitely be obnoxious if you’re not carrying a passenger (having feet on them keeps them quiet!), but this is a minor inconvenience.
I would recommend this bike to anyone, it’s fantastic.

Over a year ago we had to decide whether to buy a new car or a cargo bike and we continue to be happy with our decision to buy the Yuba Kombi. It’s small enough to fit into the basement of our small row house, but big enough to easily fit our 3 and 6 year olds, with room to spare. The monkey bars keep the kids secure and we even sprung for the breadbasket on the front, which has been surprisingly useful. We’re looking forward to introducing our third child to the bike when he is old enough to sit on the Yepp Mini on the handlebars (although note that I can’t figure out how to use Yepp Mini and the breadbasket at the same time).

I heard about this bike on a podcast where the hosts are bike enthusiasts with young kids. I bought the Yuba Kombi about a year ago so I could haul around my 3 year old on the back. It’s been great. We live in a an area where everything is accessible with a bicycle including grocery store runs, going to the park or out for ice cream. It’s a great way to get out and have a good time with the kids. The bike itself is solid and the long tail makes it feel pretty sturdy even with a wiggling kid on the back. The additions are great as well. I’ve purchased the bread basket which is very sturdy and can easily hold several grocery bags or takeout dinner. The bike also stores upright on the back end which helped reduce it’s footprint in our small apartment.

I can’t believe I got this much bike for this price. I’ve been riding our Kombi with my year old and 2 year old for the last 6 months and it is so much fun! I get some exercise while taking my kids to the park or the library and they are now hooked on biking. It carries a ton of stuff without feeling like it. We use it more than I imagined!

I stumbled on the Yuba site by accident and Iâm so glad I did! I ordered the Kombi and it is just perfect for me! I love that itâs not only functional, but pretty! I was looking for something to allow me to ditch the car while still getting my errands done and I love that I can comfortably bring my kiddo with me. I just love it!

Recently purchased a Kombi, my first cargo bike. Super sturdy, comfortable and easy to ride. Bike rides have become a family staple in our weekly activities these past several months and this bike has been an awesome addition. Installed the monkey bars and side boards for our 5 year old twins to hop on the back. They have a blast every time we go out. It’s also been great not having to take the car when hitting the tennis courts or heading out the baseball fields with the kids. We love the Kombi!
John Koskotas (verified owner) –
Iâve been looking for a cargo bike that could carry my 5-year-old and my 2-year-old AND fit in our storage space. The kombi was the only cargo bike that I could find that fulfilled those requirements, and it feels like serendipity. The lockdown was hard for us and we arenât ready to take the subway again. This bike really helped us get through some stressful times. Iâm thankful for that and the smiles my kids flash me when we ride our kombi.
Bryan (verified owner) –
We have had the Kombi bike for a few weeks now – and didn’t realize how much we were going to enjoy using it. My wife and I both have enjoyed carting around our 2-year old in his bike seat secured to the back. He loves it the most of all of us. We have been biking him to his daycare facility every morning in it – and he is only sad to be dropped off because he is no longer on a bike ride. (He isn’t sad to see us go… just the bike.) Assembly of the bike took a few hours. The process was fairly straightforward, and required some minor adjustments to the front brake pad and derailleur. We are looking forward to enjoying this bike for years to come.

My first cargo bike, purchased expressly for hauling two kids (with monkey bars add-on). It works and the kids enjoy it. They haven’t started complaining about “having” to go for a ride yet. But small issue with seating arrangement (see #1 below). Longest trip so far was about 10 miles and they tolerated it well, though it was a workout for me on the few hills. I chose the Kombi partly because I didn’t want a motor. Glad to sweat it out, but potential purchaser should consider this. Estimated 50 lb bike, plus 80 lbs of children, plus gear and such adds up.
Three issues that I noticed:
1: I got the soft spot (with three straps; not the mini with two straps) because the product description says it covers the “entire rack” on a Kombi. Doesn’t seem to be true; more like 2/3rds. Looks like I’ll need an extra mini to prevent the kids from squishing toward the back of the rack.
2: The chainstays hit the back of my heels if I don’t position my feet a little more forward and a little more pigeon-toed that I would otherwise.
3: I haven’t had a kickstand since my first 10-speed; this feels like a luxury and the design is pretty cool. Works great with no cargo. However, important to note that it’s easy for two kids to tip themselves over with just a little wiggling.
On the plus side: easy to assemble with the video tutorial I found online, feels sturdy, the protective cover over the rear wheel seems well designed for preventing children from injuring themselves, gear shifting works well, and the bike JUST fits diagonally in our building’s elevator. (Phewsh.)
Patrick in Chicago –
We are so happy with our Kombi. It’s solid and so well balanced. The kickstand holds everything steady as I load our three-year-old and backpack in the back with the optional monkey bars. The foot pegs are perfectly placed for her feet, too. The Kombi was purchase for regular t0-from daycare trips, but we now use every day. Can’t wait to put the optional cargo bags on the back for even more possibilities to use the bike. And oh yeah, we do get lots of attention on the street. People smile, wave or ask us about this bike all the time. It’s fun!
Patrick in Chicago –
We are so happy with this bike. It’s solid, yet so well balanced. The strong kickstand holds the bike as we load our 3-year-old and backpack in the back, both fitting securely with the optional monkey bars. The foot pegs are perfectly placed for her feet, too. We bought this as a commuter bike for to-from daycare trips, but use it every day now. Can’t wait to put on the cargo bags and make even more use of this bike! And oh yeah, it gets lots of attention- people smile, wave, or ask about this bike all the time!

We love our Kombi. We are able to haul both kids and backpack to school at the same time and we don’t need to get in in a car. Also the bike is well balanced and easy to ride.

I am so happy I finally decided to buy a Yuba, just wish I did it 2 years ago when I moved to NYC! I use it every day to take the kids to school, to the park and pretty much everywhere we need to go. I hate having to take any form of public transport now and we donât own a car living in NYC.
Iâm around 5â tall and manage to ride with my 8 and 6 year olds on the back, with the rings and seat pads. Hills are a challenge but achievable as Iâm a strong cyclist already, setting off from stationary is a little wobbly but otherwise itâs perfect. If you have school bags/other bags to carry you will definitely need the basket!
My only 2 complaints are that cycling on the uneven city roads are a little uncomfortable and without the kids on the back when Iâm riding alone, the side boards rattle around sooo much and make such a loud noise. Itâs really annoying. Also the seat pads donât fit perfectly with 2 rings attached which seems like a design flaw thatâs easily fixed for future models.
I love this bike though!!
Please Yuba can you include a safety flag to your list of add ons… Iâd like to get one for this bike!
Isaac Covert –
Really enjoy the Kombi. 3 and 4 year old love to go on daily bike rides. Very solid rig that I am sure will last for many years to come.
Emily Hooley (verified owner) –
I bought this bike as a graduation gift for my partner. He (and our three year old) absolutely love cruising around town on it! We put our yepp child seat on the front of the bike and it still handles really well. Even I feel comfortable with both kids on this bike and Iâm 5â2â. The frame is strong and we love the kick stand that keeps everything stable while we load up. Weâre hoping this will be our new vehicle for dropping kids at day care and running errands.
Johan Meijlaers –
I should not comment, since I don’t own a Kombi – yet. I use a Yuba Mundo V2 as my daily driver since forever and i am considering a brake upgrade and new wheels. Nope, i’d rather have a brand spanking new bike given that the pricing on the Kombi is very much no frills, discs are included, overall length is a bit shorter and there is no front derailleur so i can fit in my Bafang motor system without having to scrap one.
Time to crack open the piggy bank đ
Kyle –
LOVE THIS BIKE!!! Iâm a 6â5â dad and this bike fits fits great. Seat post is super tall and the handlebars can be adjusted to fit to match my seat height.
Also, my 4-year-old loves it too! AND people around the city literally say âthat bike is awesomeâ when they see us riding together. My little guy loves to hear that too đ
Iâm not a bike mechanic and I was able to assemble and roughly tune the bike myself, even without a bike stand. The YouTube âhow-toâ video really helped.
The Yellow and black color scheme is dope as well, donât see too many âbumble-beesâ out there on the road.
Iâve taken it on a couple 10+ mile rides and itâs super comfy and not strenuous to pedal in the least.
Overall Iâm super happy with my purchase!
Brian –
I love the Yuba Kombi. I have a Yuba Spicy Curry as well, but my wife and I were always sharing the bike for pickup and drop-off of our 4 yr old at school. It is very affordable for the price and isn’t as large and or heavy as the Spicy Curry. If you are thinking about getting a compact cargo without the electric motor this will do you just fine. The gearing is perfect for hills and cruising around town under loads plus the smaller wheels and frame keep it easily balanced. It’s possible to store it upright if needed, but it is a little heavy if you’ve got it fully outfitted with all the accessories. Highly recommend!
Carley –
Huge fan of this bike! The bike is very sturdy and easy to control. Plenty of space for my son and lots of cargo room. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking for a cargo bike.
Nina (verified owner) –
Loving my yellow kombi so far. We (thankfully) have a bike enthusiast friend who assembled it for me and also gave it a thumbs up. This was a relief since we don’t have a yuba dealer anywhere close and bought this without test riding. It’s surprisingly steady while riding, even with my 80 and 25lb kids on the back in Yepp seats. It took a little getting used to the low speed wobbliness and figuring out how to get it off the kickstand when loaded with kids onboard, but after a couple weeks I’m getting more confident. I was a little surprised that the Kombi rack is at roughly the same height as the rack on my old Fuji commuter with 27″ wheels, but even so the bike still feels more stable than the Fuji with a baby seat on back. I’ve only ridden on relatively flat ground with the kids on board and it’s been great, but I’m not sure I could make it up a hill with them so I am looking into aftermarket electric assist, which I’ve seen others add to the kombi. The front frame mounted rack is great. I also just got the running boards so my oldest would have a place to rest her feet (I couldn’t find a great place to attach the yepp Jr footholds) and they work well, though I don’t think you can store the bike upright with them on. I really don’t think you can beat this bike for the price. I’m very happy with my purchase.
Tim –
Love this bike, as does my 5-year-old son. We’re using it for the school run in LA (can’t be driving in all that traffic) and it handles the badly paved roads and bike lanes beautifully. Still waiting for my monkey bars but the kids’ handlebars worked well. We had it shipped to our house and it was fairly easy to assemble at home. Great ride – recommend it to anyone with a small child!
Jensen Fair –
Amazing bike! We just got this so ride with my 1 year old on the back, he has a ton of room and love cursing around on it! This smaller cargo bike is perfect for the city and has plenty of room to add on storage. Love it and couldn’t be more happy.
Derek Jones (verified owner) –
I love how solid this bike is and itâs visible to all on the road. It is heavy, but the gearing makes climbing a breeze. Itâs a smooth ride and very comfortable
Megan Clemmer (verified owner) –
I love this bike so much! The blue color is so pretty. Iâm currently using this bike with the Yepp baby seat and you can hardly even feel the seat behind you, itâs so steady and sturdy! I canât wait to utilize the cargo space as a seat when my son out grows the baby seat! I foresee years of adventure on this bike. I assembled it myself having never assembled a bike before and it was quite easy!
Ashleigh Dudics –
I LOVE this bike, or I should say my son and I love it. I had been looking for a solution to our old bike. One that would carry my special needs son. Enter the Kombi. The difference was night and day compared our old set up. This bike is well balanced. He can move around looking at things and I don’t feel like I’m loosing balance. I thought I might have trouble with the weight difference of this bike. Its a bit heavier then a standard bike. I had no trouble and in fact it feels lighter and easier to get going. I think it comes back to the balance. I added the Monkey bars since he gets off and runs when we stop. They keep him on and there’s room for him to grow. Even though he 8, I feel they will accommodate him past the age suggestions. I also got the cushions which are I wonderful. I see this bike lasting longer then my legs to get him around. When that happens I have no doubt we’ll bump up to an electric one.

I was on the look out for a new cargo bike to replace my previous one which was beginning to need a lot of work – it was 11 years old. When I saw the Kombi I knew I had to have it and now after 2 months of solid riding I am so glad I did. Why the Kombi? Aside from the price point which is amazing for a bike of this quality, it has all the features that were important to me. Disc brakes, heavy duty dual kick stand, upright posture (this was a huge factor), the amazing add ons. The bike is very stable and flexible in traffic. And there gearing is plenty for me even with the hills. I can haul large amounts of groceries and cargo in a Baguette, and the running board add ons, while heavy, make for a very stable load balance. If you are just getting started or are even a pro at the cargo bike lifestyle you really need to look at this one. I don’t have children to haul around – I am 62 and have been car free for 12 years. The Kombi has allowed me to continue with the lifestyle choice that has been the best decision of my life. Thank you Yuba!
Melissa (verified owner) –
I love this bike so much. I outfitted it with the adjustable monkey bars and a Yepp Nexxt seat for my 3.5 yr old. Shipping was quick and the bike was packed carefully and arrived in perfect condition (with free Yuba hats, whatsup!) Assembly would have been WAY too difficult for me (bike novice here) and the closest dealer is 2 hours away in Tucson. There are NO assembly instructions, neither included nor available online. A professional bike assembler friend was able to figure it out by watching the available assembly videos for other Yuba models paired with his own experience. There probably should be a video made available for each individual model.
I wish I could include pictures: my son loves riding on the back of it SO much. Itâs smooth and easy for me as a rider, even though I havenât ridden a bike in years. I did not notice any particular learning curve related to the size of the bike; it feels very compact and manageable.
So far we have used it for commuting to work at my sonâs school, grocery shopping, and going to local parks. I literally find myself now not wanting to go anywhere that I canât go on my bike.
Love.
