Purchased Nov 2021 for Kombi E5 – at time of writing it’s back in stock – I bought mine in the UK.. Been essential as makes it so much less hassle for riding in New York’s snow, rain, hail etc. three year old loves it.
Big benefit is stopping the wind in freezing temperatures. Lots of admiring comments from people on the street.
Also handy for when I put shopping in the back or just hang child’s helmet from the ‘roof bars’ to keep things dry.
Tips:
– be sure to not lean bike against wall or anything as that can scratch the plastic.
– water sits on roof – so I use bungee cord and something to avoid it being ‘concave’ shape collecting water (don’t hit brakes when water on roof….)
– make sure back near rear tyre is in a position where tyre dirt/rain from tyre won’t come inside (I am going to attach some Velcro to hold it in position)
Potentially a bit expensive but you’d spend that much on a Gortex jacket so all relative. And as part of the total bike price it’s not that much.

This has been a lifesaver over the course of west coast winter. I carry my son to school every day and this has made all the difference, both on rainy days, and also on cold ones, as it keeps the wind out.
Echo previous review on a few points: water pools on the top, so watch out, and spray from the rear wheel can make a mess on the inside. I solved this problem with a $15 mtb fender zap-strapped under the seat.
I was skeptical that this would work as well as it has. I have it attached to a non-electric Kombi and have had no problems with drag, or any sort of “sail effect”.
As a side note, this cover can also increase cargo capacity. I’ve piled it full with stuff that otherwise would have tipped out. I can imagine this leading to tears if done too frequently, but I’ve never had any problems.

Overall pretty happy with the pop top. So many less complaibts from the kids about wind chill last winter! In a Melbourne winter they could just wear their normal school jackets, compared to full ski gear before the pop top.
Echo others comments about it not being much affected by wind or causing drag, as well as the water pooling issue. Would definitely buy a âGen 2â with some improvements, such as having the cover run further down to protect the kids legs or generally making it a bit sturdier.

This cover has been fantastic for one fall/spring season, then the seams started to come apart. The seam that attaches the side window and side door just came apart. Also, The top plastic arching piece does not stay at an arch, and water pools and drips in the top. We are still using it this fall, as it is much better than nothing. I would probably still buy it, but wish it was a bit better constructed.
